MACBETH Method (MCDA)
Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) provides a structured approach to complex decision-making by evaluating multiple criteria simultaneously. One of the most widely used MCDA methods, MACBETH (www.M-MACBETH.com), was developed to facilitate robust and consistent decision support by structuring judgments of value differences into meaningful numerical scales.
Thanks to its ability to handle both quantitative and qualitative data, MACBETH is applied in various fields, including healthcare decision-making, policy evaluation, investment prioritization, and strategic planning.
Build intuitive decision models with multiple criteria, structured weight elicitation, and automatic aggregation of results—helping you turn complex decisions into clear and informed choices.

Elicit preferences online
Easily create robust, scientifically sound processes to elicit preferences to evaluate options
Build value functions
Implement the MACBETH method to easily capture stakeholders’ preferences to build scales
Determine weights
Automatically create swing-weighting questionnaires to determine weights for criteria
4 Advantages you need to know
The implementation of the MACBETH method into simple questionnaires streamlines the collection of preferences and the creation of MCDA models to evaluate options.

How We Do It
The Welphi platform helps you create a robust process to ensure quality feedback throught a user friendly easy to set up and run software.
Create your Delphi panel, setup the access mode and add your participants

Add one MACBETH page to elicit preferences on each criterion

Add one or more weighting pages and select which criteria to include in each

To allow access to your study, just click send invite and monitor the send status

The platform will apply the MACBETH method to derive scores for the criteria levels and weights for the criteria

“We chose Welphi to perform a global Delphi survey toachieve consensus on the indicators and targets (more than a hundred). The support from designing the survey to the final analysis were simply great. The platform itself is very user-friendly, i would certainly recommend they will make the job so much easier for you!”

Dr. Giovanni Satta

“I used Welphi platform to carry out four Delphi studies at the same time - something that would have been impossible without Welphi. Streamlining interactions with participants and monitoring their progress. There was also good support from João and his colleagues”.

“I’ve had a good experience working with Welphi! The software is super helpful for
surveys and for survey analysis, especially when you are running many at a time! We
have really appreciated the fast response of the Welphi team for any and all questions
about set-up and troubleshooting. “

Julie Landsman
European Association of Urology
“The software pseudonymises the participants and controls the pace of answer delivery,
which is a great time-saver. The centralisation of emails within the application is also very handy and reduces the toil of communication with the Delphi participants.“

Frequently Asked Questions.
Although you can include any type of page available in Welphi, the specific MCA pages are the MACBETH scoring and MACBETH weighing.
Yes, when you ask Welphi to export the round data you will get the scores and weights calculated by the MACBETH algorithm from the judgements the participants have provided
Currently, Welphi enables you to create questionnaires based on 2 different methods, and we are working to add more to the list.
The first method you can implement is the Delphi method. In this method, you can achieve consensus on any given topic, create multiple rounds, and invite participants to review their answers from round to round.
The second method Welphi implements is qualitative swing weighting using the MACBETH technique. This allows you to determine weights for criteria/indicators when building an MCDA model. You can also use the MACBETH method to create value functions.
You just need to insert the list of criteria you want to weigh and, for each one, two benchmark levels, enabling your participants to make proper comparisons. Based upon this, Welphi will automatically build the necessary questions to be answered by your participants. Based on the answers, welphi will return a set of weights for each criterion and for each participant by implementing the MACBETH method
There are three types of questions in Welphi: Delphi-related, MCDA-related, and regular questionnaire. Welphi automatically generates statistics for Delphi-related questions and produces scores and weights for MCDA-related questions. On the other hand, regular questionnaire questions are standard open-ended or closed-ended questions that you can set up, but they will not be analyzed by the system.
There are two obvious ways to ask the opinion of a set of people: join everyone in a room or set up an online questionnaire. While we think the former will always be the best way to foster the debate and exchange of arguments between people, it lacks the flexibility required to join people often geographically disperse and with tight schedules. Additionally, it makes no sense when the number of participants is very high. The later, on the other way, overcomes the problems of having many people at the same time in a room but makes it impossible to share people’s opinions. This is where Welphi comes handy. It not only provides the online resources to set up a questionnaire where each participants can answer it his own pace and place, but it also makes it possible to share participants answers and comments and ultimately allow any participant to change his/her answer after getting feedback from his peers.

Yes. You just need to upload a list of your participant’s e-mails, and Welphi will generate a unique link for each participant. Additionally, you can use Welphi to send a customizable invitation e-mail to your participants. You will then be able to keep track of everything each participant does in the questionnaire and send reminder e-mails if needed.
All data can be downloaded to Excel. Additionally, the list of participants and questions on the qualitative page can be uploaded from a .csv file.
